Switchboard Considered for Rockefeller Foundation's Next Century Innovator Awards

 

Switchboard is honored to be considered for one of the Rockefeller Foundation’s Next Century Innovator Awards and is currently 1 of 25 still in the running.  The awards are given to innovators whose work is improving the lot of poor and vulnerable people. Switchboard is being considered for its solution to create Free Calling Networks to Strengthen Health Systems currently running in Ghana, Liberia and recently launched in Tanzania.

Switchboard Launches Health Network Programme in Tanzania

Switchboard, in partnership with the Tanzanian Ministry of Health and Vodacom successfully launched the Health Network Programme on 11 February 2013. This programme will allow 9,000 health workers to make free calls and send free SMSs to one another countrywide.

Switchboard CEO selected as PopTech Social Innovation Fellow

Switchboard is pleased to announce that CEO Eric Woods has been selected as a PopTech Social Innovation Fellow for 2012. The program is designed to “equip world-changing innovators with the tools, insights, visibility and social network that can help them scale their impact to new heights.” Eric is one of a select group of high-potential change agents chosen from around the world to participate in a multi-day intensive fellowship program held in Maine. The Fellows also participate and present at PopTech, “the renowned thought leadership conference” to be held from October 17 – 20, 2012 in Camden, Maine.

Eric is deeply honored to be selected for this Fellowship and plans to use the tools and insights gained to heighten the impact of Switchboard’s operations in Ghana, Liberia, Tanzania and beyond.

Switchboard invited to speak at GSMA Mobile Health Summit

Switchboard is pleased to announce that it has been selected as a speaker at the GSMA-mHealth Alliance Mobile Health Summit in Cape Town, South Africa held on May 29 – June 1, 2012.

The Summit “will deliver a thought-leadership conference programme that will cover the hottest topics in mobile health: service-provider business-models and MNO partnerships, through regulation and privacy, to on-the-ground innovations that are saving lives.”

Switchboard CEO Eric Woods will be speaking on the Building Health Workforce Capacity panel.  Other speakers at the Summit include Axel Nemetz, Head of Health for Vodafone; Gustav Praekelt, CEO of Praekelt; and Robert Fabricant, Vice President of Creative, frog.

With innovations and practitioners from around the globe, the Summit will demonstrate the economical scale, the sustainability, and the challenges of mobile health initiatives in the developing world.

Switchboard is pleased to announce that CEO Eric Woods has been selected as a Rainer Arnhold Fellow for 2012.

The Rainer Arnhold Fellows Program commemorates the life of Rainer Arnhold, a German-born physician who spent his life practicing medicine, teaching medical students around the world, and making a lasting impact in the developing world where his work focused on detecting and treating child malnutrition.

“Rainer Arnhold Fellows are social entrepreneurs with particularly promising solutions to the big problems in health, poverty and conservation in the Third World. The Program helps them design their work to maximum impact through iterative design process focused on scalability.”

The Rainer Arnhold Fellows Program and their focus on design for scalable impact will help Switchboard further its mission of building nationwide networks of health workers in the developing world, all in the name of improving patient care.
